Under the theme ‘Africa for Africa’ EnergyNet confirms Nairobi, Kenya to host the 25th Africa Energy Forum.

The much anticipated announcement was agreed at the height of the pandemic lock-down with African Development Bank VP Kevin Kariuki, who Chairs the 2021 Forum as it arrives in London, UK next Month.

EnergyNet’s Simon Gosling said; “Lockdown impacted people across the continent significantly and it was the response of organisations like the AfDB, CDC Group, ABSA and more who put forward human-led capital solutions that inspired me to discuss the potential of hosting the Forum regularly on the continent with the VP.

Kevin’s response was extremely positive and his guidance encouraged us to make such a huge commitment to invest further into Africa in this way. Of course, KenGen was the first utility to support aef back in 1998 so it was an obvious choice when you consider that, as well as how successful Kenya’s energy market has performed over these past years.”

The 23rd Africa Energy Forum (aef) takes place at the Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel, from 15-17 November 2021 and the announcement is set to be a hot topic of discussion, especially as the Forum will be taking Africa’s voice to the heart of Europe next June, where public sector stakeholders will have an opportunity to state clearly how their vision for the future under the ‘Africa for Africa’ theme.

Following the recent relaxing of restrictions, clearing the way for travellers with valid vaccines from across the continent to attend the Forum, the spike in attendance has been significant. Notably high level delegations from Morocco and South Africa are the latest to confirm their participation both in country spotlights as well as intimate closed door boardrooms where they will discuss the next five years.

Under the theme ‘Reunited. In One Place,’ the Africa Energy Forum will again unite the investment community under one roof. Taking place on the week after COP26, the event will provide an ideal base to discuss how the billions of dollars of climate funding set to hit the continent, will be implemented and we are delighted to welcome the CDC Group as Country Host this year in London.

Head of Project Finance, Iain Macaulay commented: “CDC is pleased to be hosting this year’s Africa Energy Forum as Country Host. aef is a great forum to engage with our partners – Government agencies, developers, lenders and advisors – and discuss how we can work together to support the energy sector in Africa. We are looking forward to engaging with current and potential partners in person once again.”

aef will feature networking receptions, country spotlights showcasing project presentations, panel discussions with high level stakeholders laying out their strategies, interactive boardrooms and closed-door meetings, across four streams during the three-day event.

The Eswatini government has asked leading telecom operator MTN, to shut down social media giant Facebook.

The government wants to curb pro-democracy protests that have been going on for months amid calls for political reforms.

Social media platforms have been accused by the government of “irresponsibly” spreading misinformation, which was “contributing to the violent attacks and events around the country”.

“As government, we have an obligation to restore peace and order to bring a stop to the violence currently taking place,” a letter from Information Minister Princess Sikhanyiso to the communications regulator is quoted as saying by local news outlets.

MTN has also sent a message to its users informing them of the decision to shut down Facebook.

Malawi’s Scorchers in black against Zambia’s Copper Queens

By Edwin Mbewe

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Women’s National team the Scorchers on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 were held to a one all draw at home by Copper Queens of Zambia in Total Energy Women’s AFCON Qualifiers at Bingu National Stadium.

Problems which were showcased in South Africa at COSAFA tournament of poor defending, failure in taking chances was also spotted in Malawi team.

Scorchers started on a low note as they struggled a lot at the midfield, attacking without aim and they were always second on the ball in the whole first half.

Zambia could be on the lead as early as first five minutes of the game as they were awarded a penalty after a hand ball in the penalty box by Malawian defender.

But Grace Chanda, captain of the side, missed the spot kick before she later erased her sins by scoring a beauty for the Copper Queens at 20th minute after poor communication amongst the Scorchers. First half ended with the visitors leading the host by a goal to nil.

Second half Scorchers came up with brain blowing ideas, and was improved side than the visitors no wonder Sabina Thom scored at 66th minute through a beautiful header from the ball which had originated from the free kick taken from the centre line.

After this goal,Malawi kept on pressing through Asimenye Simwaka,Madyina Ngulube,Fazila Chiyembekezo,Wezzie Mvula and Sabina Thom among others but failed to utilize their chances.

Zambia regained their first half form towards the end of the game, with Grace Chanda taking shots at Malawian goal, thanks to Ruth Mhango who made several beautiful saves.

Malawi have put themselves in tricky situation after failing using home ground advantage,in the next week’s encounter in Lusaka-Zambia at Nkoloma Stadium.

The Scorchers have to win at all cost or force a draw of more than one goal if they are to qualify to the second round of the qualifiers while Copper Queens a goalless draw will be enough.

Rachael Kundananji, third captain for Copper Queens, acknowledged the game was tough though they created more chances but failed to score more goals.

“Oky, Bola yeze yakosako,Teze tapeza ma chances yambili but takangiwa kulongo ma goals elo then ku training timalonga tizayenda kusewezera pa ma mistakes yasu tikayenda kunyumba. We had chances to win today but we have failed, we will win at home no doubt about that”, Kundananji lamented in Chinyanja.

Malawi National team coach MaCNelbert Kazuwa said, they had hope of winning this game but somehow the girls failed to play according to plan. They failed to control the play at the midfield and finishing upfront.

” We will be travelling to Zambia not as tourists but with a winning minds,we believe to win away,we will rectify the finishing problems we have noted today”, he added.
