The space agency plans to make contact with the extra-terrestrial creatures by sending images of humans waving, to offer a welcoming approach.
But the unsolicited pictures will be anatomical sketches of a man and a woman alongside a depiction of DNA – meaning they won’t be as graphic as you might think.
The drawings were shared in research which is a part of a NASA project named “Beacon in the Galaxy,” which hopes to trigger communication with any possible alien civilization, reports Chron.
The transmitted note also features a basic representation of a world map, as well as a diagram explaining how the Earth’s gravity works.
Experts confirmed the message will be communicated in binary code as they believe it might be understood by extra-terrestrials.
“Though the concept of mathematics in human terms is potentially unrecognizable to ETI, binary is likely universal across all intelligence,” the study states.
“Binary is the simplest form of mathematics as it involves only two opposing states: zero and one, yes or no, black or white, mass or empty space.”
It has been reported that the message will also feature simple mathematical and physical concepts “to establish a universal means of communication followed by information on the biochemical composition of life on Earth, the Solar System’s time-stamped position in the Milky Way relative to known globular clusters, as well as digitised depictions of the Solar System, and Earth’s surface.”
NASA has previously sent depictions of naked humans out into the universe to try and grab aliens’ attention.
In the early 1970s, plaques and golden records were used on the Pioneer and Voyager missions which included naked drawings.
“The launching of this ‘bottle’ into the cosmic ‘ocean’ says something very hopeful about life on this planet,” astrophysicist Carl Sagan said at the time.
